Have you heard of the 80/20 rule?

It is the Pareto principle. It is when the a top 20% of all competitors account for 80% of all business while the bottom 80% of competitors share the remaining 20% of available business. This is no accident; these successful top 20% have what is called ‘the winning edge concept’.

A quick Google search shows that successful people are; optimistic, passionate, persistent, enthusiastic, responsible, respectful, open-minded, focused, great motivators, honest, mindful, courageous, committed to growth, hard workers, good listeners, versatile, have an easy disposition yet high expectations of themselves and others, display high energy, know people, and always follow up.

As you can see, it is attitude not skills that define success and from this we can infer that winning edge boils down to ‘Attitude’.

How are your sales going?

Is your business in the top 20% or the bottom 80%?

If you want to be in the top 20% then you need your staff to have the winning edge and you can do this with a marketing system structured around a good unique selling proposition (U.S.P).

A well defined U.S.P will give your business the competitive advantage it needs to get more sales and help your staff develop the winning attitude.

Why do people buy from you?

It’s the fundamental question every business owner should be asking themselves. Understanding this will define your unique selling proposition (USP).

‘We are the best’ is the most common response I hear but this is not enough. It’s very important that you understand this point. Would you believe a cafe that has a banner stating ‘best coffee in the world’?
